Starting from scratch | First Attempt | Arrival in Germany | Part 1
Hello Guys,
Never thought that I will write something on a public platform. I have written some pieces in past, but that was only for myself; and this, I am writing out loud. First Attempt.
I am gonna talk about my experience so far in Germany and what I fear about future, in this blogging series.
I still remember the day exactly 6 months before, 17th September, 2018. I traveled first time via airplane. Starting in morning from Ahmedabad to Delhi and then to Frankfurt. I had this mixed feeling of Excitement, fear and about doing something and making everyone proud. I have the same feeling now, lol. May be it is compulsory for every start. Of course the magnitude varies.
Then I landed in Frankfurt and was just clueless because everything was in German language. I had basic understanding of language. But it is difficult to learn Basic German in India and then apply it in Germany, especially when you are travelling first time abroad. There were English signs as well, but I was panicked for a while. Then I found a guy like me. He was travelling to Dresden and I just saw him confused, looking around and trying to get his luggage from conveyor belt. Same facial expressions like me. Two heads are better than one!! I approached him and started conversation. I asked his name. 'Arun' he said. He had similar situation like me. Yes, we had a situation. Foolish me.
We both had trains next day. I made a big mistake while booking my train journey and had to wait for 20 hours for my train to Aachen, my final destination.(I had one train after 3 hours but was a little costly) I booked well in advance, because the ticket price increases as the date of journey comes closer. I saved some money, which I am not proud of now. Arun had to wait for 16 hours. We were sitting in the airport trying to figure our night stay. I thought of taking a room nearby, but the prices were high and being a gujju economical student traveler, I directly multiply the rates in euros to 80. Aggh, So costly. Because of our kanjoos nature and high exchange rates, we decided to spend our night in airport. Don't judge us, we are students, we should save money for future.
The Night. I had three big bags and one hand bag with broken strap.(It broke at the arrivals counter.) I was totally focused in protecting my luggage instead of myself. I don't know why. So, worried, tired, and confused. After a while I opened my handbag and ate some namkeen and Ready to Eat food for dinner. Now I had company so I didn't get that much bored but wished that I had booked the early ticket. The people around us were getting less as the time was passing. Now, I also felt sleepy. But I was worried about the luggage. Then a thought came to mind that why am I worrying? I don't have diamonds or jewelry with me, it was just clothes and food. In fact, they should worry before touching any strangers luggage who is sleeping at airport and looks like malnourished. lol. (I was very thin at that time). And I had a good night sleep.
Next morning I woke up and found my luggage as it was.The fear is only state of mind, you can get over it. I said good bye to Arun, as he had train in an hour. I also got fresh and went to train station which was nearby to airport. There I took the train to Aachen and reached to Aachen safely. I will write about this in next post.
Overall it was not so bad kind of experience and also, I learned a lot. Like, calculate overall costing, not only how much money you are spending but also take in account that how much energy, time and your peace of mind are you spending. People don't consider it, but those are more important than money.
Jai Shree Krishna.
